Uproot Hidden Perfectionism

Dec 06, 2023

To improve your opinion of yourself

You'd go on stand to say "not me".

But perfectionism could be operating inside of you, undetected.

How do you know?

When you stepped down from the stand you said:

🔎 "I didn't represent my case well", and feel disappointed by this

🔎"I didn't realize I had spinach in my teeth", and are embarrassed by it

🔎"I pronounced a word wrong", and feel unintelligent because of it

Sure, you learn from these things. But, do you have to feel down in the dumps about them in order to learn from them?

Imagine what it would be like to show more kindness to yourself because these things happened.

Imagine jumping for joy because you realized you had spinach in your teeth, mispronounced words, or misrepresented the case.

Jumping for joy because you're lovable even when you don't perform well. In fact, more so.

Jumping for joy because despite trying your best, your best is sometimes messy, and always imperfect.

What gets you down the most, on bad days?

•Your weight

•Your height

•Your IQ

•Your relationship

•Your communication

•Your income

•Your performance

•Your likability

•Your regrets

•Your mistakes

Find someone who can show you kindness BECAUSE of these things, not in spite of them. Let that person be you.

Even if just for today, give yourself a break from operating under the rule of perfectionism. Soften your thoughts and regrets around the messes you unintentionally make.

You're allowed to be imperfect. It's the only you that's available. And you don't want to miss out on loving the only you that's here.

I'm curious and would love to hear one way you think perfectionism might be contributing to unfavorable thoughts about yourself.

Please share.
